We’re also going to feature stories of the RAF Sports Associations, teams and individuals who have been funded thanks to the Sports Lottery so email us and tell us your, or your team’s, winning story and we’d love to include it here.

Please remember to tell us if you do not want your story to be used on any communications or promotions about the RAF Sports Lottery and RAF Central Fund.

SAC Kieran O’Callaghan

SAC Kieran O’Callaghan , RAF Brize Norton

£10,000 Winner

It certainly wasn’t an April Fool for Kieran who was lucky enough to win the top prize of £10,000 from the very first draw of the new RAF Sports Lottery!

Kieran shared “This money will give me and my wife a head start and a good foundation to buy our first family home together, while also giving us the chance to potentially enjoy a holiday or two – it’s amazing to have won this much, I still can’t believe it! A huge thank the RAF Sports Lottery, not only for the money I’ve won but for the continued support in funding towards previous expeds I’ve been on.”

Sgt Sven Blomquist

Sgt Sven Blomquist , RAF Northolt

£1,000 Winner

It’s not a wind-up! This win has made for some great father, son adventures.

Sven shared “I honestly thought it was a wind up from work as I’ve been playing for nearly 15 years. I’ve been telling the lads at work to sign up to the new system as you have to be in it to win it, I now realise that was a great decision!  In the past I’ve seen some elaborate wind ups convincing people they’d won so I wanted to wait till the money was in my bank before celebrating. I’ve been saving to take my son to Disney World, Orlando for 3 years. A big chunk of my winnings will go towards that which has helped me so much. I also used some of the money for a great day out in London with my son, topped off with some Lego for him!”

Sgt Thomas Saunders

Sgt Thomas Saunders ,  RAF Waddington

£1,000 Winner

I remember saying “I never get anything on the RAF Sports Lottery!”

Tom shared; “Now I think I’m one of the most undeserving people to win a £1000 on the RAF Sports Lottery because I have been fortunate enough to go the ski champs in Saalbach, snowboard in Holland, play hockey in Australia, Singapore, Cyprus and South Africa, all with the assistance of the RAF Central Fund. So if you, like me, have ever said “I never win anything on the Sports Lottery”, then please don’t leave it down to chance or luck, look for sporting opportunities, Expeds or funding, and if you’re not already a member then join the RAF Sports Lottery, because you could be a lucky winner of £1000 or  even £10,000!”

Cpl Richard James

Cpl Richard James ,  RAF Odiham

£1,000 Winner

I have always plated the RAF Sports Lottery as I believe it helps fund the RAF Central Fund which is a truly worthy cause!

Richard said; “I have played rugby throughout my career and have been lucky enough to represent RAFRU and gain 3 caps vs Army and Navy. In 2009 I was given the opportunity to represent the RAF in their tour to NZ to play the NZAF. The tour was two weeks in total and encompassed two games, as well as a tour around the north isle including Auckland where we were based, Hamilton and Rotorua. The RAF won the first of the games, but were narrowly beaten in the 2nd. We were also invited to watch the Auckland Blues in training and met such All Black superstars as Kevin Mealamu, Joe Rokocoko, Ali Williams and Tony Woodcock. Whilst in Hamilton we watched the Waikato Chiefs play the Hurricanes and in Rotorua we experienced the hot springs. All this made possible by the RAF Central Fund who paid towards the plane ticket. It is an experience I will never forget and will always champion the RAF Sports Lottery to anyone who will listen! I am hoping to participate in much more AT and sport in the future and can’t wait for my next adventure.”
