Cpl Jennifer Sabine – RAF Elite Boxing Squad, 2024 English National Development Champion and 2025 English Elite National Championship Quarterfinalist.
Recently named ‘Boxer of the Year’ at the RAF Boxing Association’s AGM, Cpl Jennifer Sabine has quickly become one of the RAF’s standout sporting talents.
In just two and a half years, she has risen from grassroots boxing to joining the RAF Elite Boxing Squad, securing both the National Development Championship title and the 2024 Women’s Winter Box Cup, as well as reaching the quarterfinals of the National Amateur Championship.
Helping the RAF to come out on top once again, her impressive run of success continued in November with another victory by stoppage against the German Defence Force. We caught up with Jennifer to hear about her incredible experience as part of the RAF Boxing Association, how boxing has strengthened her determination, dedication, and mindset, and why advocating for women in sport is so important.
“I started boxing as a complete beginner in late 2022, and it wasn’t until my first bout in October 2023 that my passion for the sport truly sparked. From this moment, my journey quickly accelerated, and I went on to achieve the National Development Championship title and Women’s Winter Box Cup title in 2024.
Thanks to the support of the RAF Boxing Association (RAFBA), my training and dedication to the sport have enabled me to transition to the RAF Elite Boxing Squad, where in April 2025 I reached the quarter finals of the National Amateur Championships.
My greatest and proudest achievement to date is winning the U50kg National Development Championships last year. This was also the first national title for the RAF in nine years – what an incredible feeling!
Looking ahead, my ambition is to win the Elite National Amateur Championships, a goal that I know is possible with the amazing support of the RAFBA, its coaches, and my own consistency and focus.
For me, boxing symbolises resilience and discipline. It has shown me that anything can be achieved with dedication and a strong mindset.
I am also passionate about being an advocate for women in sport. Flying the flag for female athletes is very rewarding and essential for ensuring equality, representation, and opportunity, especially in a male-dominated sport like boxing. I hope my story inspires more women to step into the ring and follow their dreams.
I train at RAF Lossiemouth Boxing Club, where the club facilities have been greatly improved through station Enrichment Grant funding from the RAF Central Fund.
My experience as a member of the RAFBA has been excellent, and I am so grateful to have access to the kit and facilities that I do. Being able to use good-quality equipment in a well-maintained environment allows all members to spar and train safely, which is absolutely crucial in boxing.
The Fund’s Individual Sports Grants programme has awarded me funding towards kit that is vital to my boxing training, including gloves in a range of different weights, boots, and specific branded headguards required for competition.
I have also been very lucky to have the chance to travel around the UK and abroad for a variety of matches, opportunities that simply would not be possible without the support of the Central Fund.
I choose to play the RAF Sports Lottery because it enables me to continue receiving significant support towards my sport and represent the RAF, whilst also having the added bonus of a chance to win cash prizes!”
Cpl Sabine’s story not only champions women in sport but also highlights the reasons why sport plays such a vital role in the RAF.
Sport is not only fundamental in supporting physical wellbeing but also essential for personal growth and developing key skills such as discipline and resilience.
