RAF Scuba

RAF Scuba Association

The aim of the RAF Scuba Association is to promote safe SCUBA diving among all RAF personnel (regardless of rank or profession). While non-competitive, SCUBA diving is recognised by the Head of RAF Sport as a Tier 4 RAF Sport.

The RAF Scuba Association and members are supported by the National Governing Body, the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC). All SCUBA is conducted under their safety guidelines and training is delivered using the BSAC syllabus to deliver qualifications recognised the world over. The wider Association includes lots of instructors who can deliver the full suite of SCUBA skills and development training including instructor training.

RAF Branches (station clubs) exist at several different locations across the UK and Cyprus. All RAF Scuba divers and members of RAF Scuba Branches are members of the Association for free. These and the Association organise various diving events throughout the year both in the UK and abroad. Divers from other Services serving at RAF stations are also part of the Association. Local civilians including civil servants, contractors and family members can also be members through their local RAF Branch or individually if there isn’t a RAF Branch nearby. Membership can also open up opportunities to get funding for diving equipment as long as you’re a member of the RAF Sports Lottery.

SCUBA is also an adventurous personal development training activity. Both types of delivery foster and develop attributes required by the Generic Performance Statement. As with all sport and AT, diving involves controlled exposure to risk within a comprehensive diving safety management system, structured progressive training, and compliance with proven safety procedures. The RAF Scuba Association delivers Ex Maltese Eagle and Gibraltar Eagle on behalf of Robson Academy of Resilience.

RAF Scuba is all about introducing people to SCUBA diving and helping them on their journey in the sport. It’s also a great way to meet like-minded people and make friends. Why not get in touch and give it a go. Come on in, the water’s fabulous!
