Instructor uplift for RAF Marham Aero Club

Following the successful application for a Central Fund grant, RAF Marham Aero Club has been able to train up new in-house instructors to meet growing demands on their flying training. At the time the application for funding was submitted, the waiting list was in double figures thanks to the popularity of this sporting activity. Unfortunately, a lack of instructors meant they were unable to meet the demand of those wishing to join the club to learn how to fly.

RAF Marham Aero Club enables service personnel from RAF Marham and surrounding stations the opportunity to learn to fly at an affordable rate as possible. The instructors are all current or ex-military pilots who are keen to give back to, and share their passion for flying with the wider Station. The enterprise is fully inclusive and presents an opportunity for those involved to detach from operational demands. Alongside learning credits and personal contributions, the Central Fund grant has helped the Club to leverage existing qualifications of service pilots at Marham and enable them to become civilian flying instructors. So far, the Club has qualified three new instructors and are in the process of qualifying three more. This has enabled them to fly over 150 hours of training for RAF Marham based personnel towards their pilot’s licences this year – more than any year in recent memory.

Pictured below is the first student sent solo by one of the instructors qualified by the RAFCF grant. The student pilot is Cpl Hall who works in the Ltng training centre.
